Wedding Cakes - On Hold
March 28th, 2020
Well, what a week or two it has been for all of us. Despite seeing this horrible virus spread across other countries, before finally reaching us here in the UK, I’m not sure we all appreciated quite how disrupted our whole lives would be. For me, it was when my 14 year old daughter’s school suddenly shut last Tuesday and we found ourselves a family of 3 all working from the dining room table. I had a little wobble, I’m not afraid to admit it, driving back from her school a few days later after she had collected all of her books and realising just how different our routine was about to become.
At this point, I had also been dealing with upset and confused couples, concerned about whether their wedding would be going ahead and some, having made the difficult decision to postpone, trying to ensure all of their chosen suppliers had availability for their new date. I was determined to make this as easy as possible for my couples and accommodated the new dates as seamlessly as possible. At the moment there has only been one lovely couple I haven’t been able to fit in and despite the feeling of letting them down, they were amazing, making me even more upset that I couldn’t now make their wedding cake.
To all my fantastic supplier friends, thank you for your support. From lovely evening chats to fellow industry professionals over Skype (and wine!) to fellow cake makers being there at the end of Messenger, working through our issues and even offering to deliver some eggs if needed, thank you!
To all my lovely couples, thank you for being so calm and quite frankly, fabulous, in the face all of this. Your day will come, it will be utterly beautiful and you will get married. Oh, and JellyCake will be there with your lovely cake too!
To all the absolutely amazing front-line workers who are keeping this nation going whilst we all stay at home, the biggest of all thank you’s.
Although I am not making wedding cakes for the next few months, I am still open for enquiries and will be busy preparing new designs, working on my skills and looking forward to the days after the virus.
Stay inside, keep well and I look forward to seeing you soon. I will be keeping up the cake prettiness by posting pictures of recent shoots and new designs over on Instagram.
